The Secaucus Housing Authority (SHA) is an autonomous authority established by the Town of Secaucus in accordance with the requirements of the Local Authorities Fiscal Control Act. Our programs are primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).
The SHA manages and operates three senior housing complexes which are subsidized under the federal Section 8 Housing Program. The program provides an annual Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) and Administrative Fee to assist the SHA in covering the expenses associated with operating low-income housing.
You should meet the following Eligibility Criteria before starting an application:
62 years or older
Declared 100% Disabled
Maximum Income Limits:
1 Person $52,750
2 Persons $60,250

Preliminary Application Stage
Anyone who would like to be put on the waiting list should make an appointment with the Housing Authority for an application. An applicant’s name will be placed on a waiting list, if their application meets the federal program guidelines and the applicant passes a credit and criminal background check. The Authority will provide you with a letter that indicates what number you are on the list. A position on the waiting list should not be construed as an offer of an apartment.
Applicant Interview Stage
During the interview stage, all of an applicant’s income is utilized in computing his/her gross annual income. This includes social security, pensions, and the interest and dividends earned on all assets.
